Description
A classic, fluffy vanilla layer cake topped with creamy vanilla buttercream, perfect for celebrations and family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2–4 tbsp heavy cream (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add flour mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with flour; mix until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in vanilla and heavy cream until you achieve desired consistency.
- Layer the cooled cake by placing one layer on a stand or plate, frosting the top, then adding the second layer and frosting the entire cake.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
For a lighter option, use Greek yogurt in the frosting or an egg substitute for a vegan version.
