  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 24 tbsp heavy cream (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with flour; mix until just combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in vanilla and heavy cream until you achieve desired consistency.
  9. Layer the cooled cake by placing one layer on a stand or plate, frosting the top, then adding the second layer and frosting the entire cake.
  10. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

For a lighter option, use Greek yogurt in the frosting or an egg substitute for a vegan version.
