Description
Fudgy brownies made with sourdough discard that add a slight tang and rich chocolate flavor for a comforting dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sourdough discard (active or unfed)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until glossy. Stir in the sourdough discard, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the wet in two additions, mixing just until no streaks of flour remain. Add chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the edges look set. Remove and let cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Feel free to add nuts, sea salt, or a swirl of caramel for extra flavor.
