Description

Crispy and tender Southern Fried Shrimp, perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the shrimp and buttermilk, cover, and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a large skillet, pour about a half-inch of vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat.
  4. Take the marinated shrimp, letting excess buttermilk drip off, and dip each piece in the flour mixture.
  5. Add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer cooked shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake the shrimp instead of frying. Use canola or peanut oil for frying.
