Description
Crispy and tender Southern Fried Shrimp, perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the shrimp and buttermilk, cover, and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- In a large skillet, pour about a half-inch of vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat.
- Take the marinated shrimp, letting excess buttermilk drip off, and dip each piece in the flour mixture.
- Add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Transfer cooked shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Notes
For a healthier option, bake the shrimp instead of frying. Use canola or peanut oil for frying.
