Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 24 tablespoons milk for frosting (adjusted)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Prepare the frosting by mixing powdered sugar and milk until smooth; add food coloring if desired.
  9. Frost cooled cookies generously and let dry.

Notes

Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking for fluffier cookies. Use fresh baking ingredients for best results.
