Description

Soft Fried Buns are warm, crispy, and comfortingly nostalgic, perfect for quick dinners or festive meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional fillings: jam, Nutella, sweetened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, or pulled pork

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a large bowl. Make a well and pour in warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise until doubled, about 45 to 60 minutes.
  4. Punch down the dough gently and divide it into 12 equal pieces, shaping each into a smooth ball.
  5. Heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly, add filling if desired, and seal before reshaping.
  7. Fry buns in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side until deep golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels, then brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar or salt.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake or air fry instead of frying. Adjust fillings based on taste preferences.
