Description
Soft Fried Buns are warm, crispy, and comfortingly nostalgic, perfect for quick dinners or festive meals.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Optional fillings: jam, Nutella, sweetened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, or pulled pork
Instructions
- Whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a large bowl. Make a well and pour in warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise until doubled, about 45 to 60 minutes.
- Punch down the dough gently and divide it into 12 equal pieces, shaping each into a smooth ball.
- Heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Flatten each ball slightly, add filling if desired, and seal before reshaping.
- Fry buns in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side until deep golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels, then brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar or salt.
Notes
For a healthier option, bake or air fry instead of frying. Adjust fillings based on taste preferences.
