Description
A flavorful blend of smoky, tender pork with fresh toppings wrapped in warm tortillas, perfect for gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 lb Pork Shoulder (or Pork Butt)
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 2 tsp Cumin
- 2 tsp Oregano
- 4 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 Onion, sliced
- 1/2 cup Orange Juice
- 12 Corn Tortillas
- Toppings: Avocado slices, fresh cilantro, diced onions, lime wedges
Instructions
- Season the pork shoulder generously with salt, pepper, cumin, and oregano.
- Sear the pork in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
- Transfer the seared pork to a slow cooker or smoker, and add minced garlic, sliced onions, and orange juice.
- If using a smoker, smoke the pork for about 4 hours at 225°F; if using a slow cooker, cook on low for 6-8 hours.
- Once fully cooked, shred the pork using two forks.
- For added texture, spread the pulled pork on a baking sheet and broil for 3-5 minutes until crispy (optional).
- Warm the corn tortillas and fill them with the smoked carnitas; top with diced onions, fresh cilantro, and avocado, squeezing lime juice over the top.
Notes
Use a meat thermometer to ensure pork reaches an internal temperature of about 190°F for the best tenderness.
