Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the ground lamb or beef for about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion and diced carrots to the pan, sauté until the onion is translucent.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and tomato paste, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stir well, and add frozen peas. Season with salt and pepper and simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. While the meat simmers, prepare your mashed potatoes. Cream them with butter and milk.
  7. Spread the meat mixture evenly in a greased baking dish and top with the mashed potatoes.
  8. Sprinkle cheese on top if using, then place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C).
