Description

A warm and comforting dish of stuffed cabbage rolls filled with beef, rice, and spices, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Carefully remove the core of the cabbage. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently place the cabbage in the water for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the leaves to soften.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, and egg. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Take a cabbage leaf and place about 2 tablespoons of filling at the base. Tuck in the sides and roll up tightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix tomato sauce, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a large baking dish.
  5. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the baking dish. Pour the remaining sauce over the top. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to caramelize the top. The sauce should be bubbly, and the rolls golden.

Notes

Allow the rolls to sit for about ten minutes before serving to meld flavors. Fresh herbs like parsley or dill can be added for garnish.
