Ingredients

  • 12 oz pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water and drain the rest.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until golden and fragrant.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Stir to combine and let simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low and slowly stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 3-4 minutes, season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing well to coat. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water.
  6. Plate your pasta and top with fresh basil.

Notes

For lighter options, substitute heavy cream with Greek yogurt or low-fat cream cheese. Add vegetables or protein for customization.
