- 12 oz pasta (penne or spaghetti)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water and drain the rest.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until golden and fragrant.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Stir to combine and let simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low and slowly stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 3-4 minutes, season with salt and pepper.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing well to coat. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water.
- Plate your pasta and top with fresh basil.
Notes
For lighter options, substitute heavy cream with Greek yogurt or low-fat cream cheese. Add vegetables or protein for customization.
