- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until well blended.
- Add the eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth and glossy, about 2 minutes.
- Fold in the chocolate chips gently.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a festive twist, add peppermint extract to the batter or top with vanilla frosting and crushed candy canes.
