  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until well blended.
  4. Add the eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth and glossy, about 2 minutes.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips gently.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a festive twist, add peppermint extract to the batter or top with vanilla frosting and crushed candy canes.
