- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 7 tablespoons dark unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups very hot water
- Vanilla ice cream (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch glass baking dish.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, and cocoa powder in a large bowl. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together remaining sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over batter.
- Pour hot water evenly over the mixture—do not stir.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until top is set and edges are golden.
- Let sit for 15-20 minutes, then serve with vanilla ice cream.
