- 2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 3/4 cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup (165 g) packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups (340 g) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, 1/2 cup oats, or crunchy cereal
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
- Cream the softened butter with both sugars until pale and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and any optional add-ins by hand.
- Drop dough about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, rotating the sheet halfway through until golden.
- Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For softer cookies, use an extra egg yolk. Dough can be refrigerated or frozen for later use.
