Description
A refreshing blend of sweet blueberries and fragrant basil in a zesty lemonade, perfect for summer gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 1–1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 4 cups water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and additional berries for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of blueberries, 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Once the blueberries start to burst, remove from heat and add 1/2 cup of fresh basil leaves. Allow this mixture to steep for 30 minutes.
- Once steeped, strain the mixture using a fine mesh sieve into a bowl to remove the solids. Press down gently on the blueberries to extract all the syrup.
- In a large pitcher, combine 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice with 4 cups of cold water. Stir in the strained syrup and adjust sweetness to taste.
- Refrigerate your Blueberry Basil Lemonade for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices and additional blueberries or basil leaves.
Notes
For fizzy lemonade, use sparkling water instead of still. Consider experimenting with other herbs like mint.
